It’s 80% diet, 20% fitness. So, don’t underestimate the power of the products you’re putting into your body. They can mean the difference between losing weight and gaining weight, regardless of how often and hard you work out. Here are the five foods to lose weight, by doing nothing more than simply avoiding them.
Snacks that contain high carbohydrates
Just say no when it comes to crackers, bread, rice cakes and dry cereal. Even the ones claiming to be ‘healthy’ aren’t going to help you lose weight. They may help in other aspects of health but the high amount of carbs won’t be any good for when you’re trying to lose weight as your body will convert them down into sugar. As you likely already know, sugar is the root of all evil.
So, instead of high-carb snacks, take a bite out of healthy fats, protein, or fresh fruits and vegetables. If you have to eat carbs, combine them with healthy fats or protein to contribute to a balanced diet.
Snack bars that contain high fiber
With a quick trip down your local grocery aisle, you’ll see high-fiber snack bars lining the shelves but don’t be fooled. While there are certainly worse snack bars out there, high fiber snack bars often contain a massive amount of sugar. If you look a little further, you’ll see that one snack bar likely gives you all the fiber you need – for an entire day. This counteracts everything, as you need to have fiber intake throughout the day in order to improve digestive health and to keep your hunger at bay.
High calorie drinks
As a rule of thumb, you should never drink your calories. As a second rule of thumb, you should only be drinking water. Juice, vitamin waters, flavored waters, non-black coffee, etc. all contain empty calories and a large amount of sugar, all of which are no good for your health and weight loss goals. Smoothies are often used as foods to lose weight but it only works if they’re packed with the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients you need. So, beware of what’s in your smoothies. I highly recommend Shakeology.
With the prior mentioned, it only makes sense to mention that eliminating booze is also recommended if you want to see results. When you drink alcohol, you’re drinking empty calories. It doesn’t fill you up, it doesn’t provide nutrients, and it certainly doesn’t hydrate you. So, pour out the liquor cabinet and find a different way to relax at the end of the day.
If nothing else, eliminate processed foods from your diet. If you were to take a look at the ingredients you’re putting in your body, you’d be shocked. The reality is, frozen meals and processed foods aren’t meals or food at all; they’re chemicals. The food components in them are stripped of their nutritional value throughout the rigorous process needed to increase their shelf life. So, avoid all processed foods for the life of you.
Foods that claim to be ‘low fat’
You want to know what’s better than low fat? No fat – at least not the unhealthy kinds. Despite the labels of common food items reading ‘low-fat’, they could be worse for your weight loss because the amount of sugar needed to replace the flavor removed is insane. This makes the product even worse for your health and fitness goals.
In the grand scheme of things, the amount of foods you can’t eat is minuscule to the foods you can eat. So, eliminate these five foods to lose weight, and your health and fitness goals will be all the better for it.
